Wyoming Commercial Mail Receiving Agency

A Commercial Mail Receiving Agent, or CMRA, gives you a credible, professional mailing address for your business while letting you keep your home address private. Here’s what you should know about CMRAs and how to hire one.

What Is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency?

A CMRA is a private company (like Best Wyoming Registered Agent) that receives mail from the US Postal Service on behalf of a third party (like you). CMRAs can receive mail on behalf of businesses or individuals.

However, the method of delivery varies. At Best Wyoming Registered Agent, we offer two kinds of delivery:

Digital mail forwarding: Also known as mail scanning, this means your mail is scanned when we receive it, then uploaded into your secure online portal for viewing.

Physical mail forwarding: If you don’t want us to open your business mail, we can instead collect the physical items, bundle them up, and send them to you regularly.

We do not offer physical mail pickup, which is the least convenient option because it requires you to go into a CMRA’s office and retrieve the mail on your own.

What about junk mail? With our service, that’s not a concern for you. We’ll shred it before you even know it exists.

CMRA Benefits

You may want to know why you should get a CMRA when traditional P.O. Boxes are right there. Here are a few benefits to CMRAs.

Professionalism: A CMRA gives you a street address in an office, not a P.O. Box. It looks more businesslike and increases your credibility.

Security: Keep some separation between your personal mail and business mail with a CMRA. You also don’t have to worry about other people accessing it.

Privacy: You want to provide a good service, but that doesn’t mean you need to give out your home address. You get enough junk mail at home as is. With a CMRA, if someone wants to look up your business address on Google, they won’t be greeted with a street view of your house instead.

Stability: If you work from remote locations like a coffee shop or library conference room, fear not. Your mail will still arrive at the same permanent address, and you can check it wherever you are.

More options: A CMRA can accept mail from private carriers like UPS and FedEx, not just USPS. CMRAs can also offer you digital mail storage and mail scanning, which means you don’t have to drive to the post office, pick up your mail, and then find a place to store it in your office.

How to Get a CMRA

1. Pick a Plan

First, you need to decide what mail plan works best for your business. We have two kinds of mail scanning options. The most basic package includes 10 pieces of mail per year, while the more robust one includes 25 pieces of mail.

Expecting more mail than that? Our Wyoming Virtual Office Service gets you unlimited mail scanning for $19 a month.

These services are available as add-ons when you hire us to be your registered agent in Wyoming, for instance. However, a CMRA is not a required part of registered agent service; it’s simply another product we offer to make your life easier.

If you’re already our client, you can go ahead and add CMRA service by logging into your account.

2. Submit USPS Form 1583

The U.S. Postal Services require you to fill out Postal Service Form 1583 to authorize a CMRA to accept mail on your behalf. It’s not a form invented by us or any other CMRA; it’s something the federal government mandates to verify the identity of the person receiving mail at a CMRA.

You’ll need to provide your full name and a residential street address, as well as two forms of ID (see step 3).

Once you hire us, you’ll able to complete this form electronically in your client account, and we’ll submit it on your behalf so you can get back to running your business. You can even sign the form electronically.

You also won’t need to worry about getting this form notarized. We’ll take care of that part as well.

3. Submit Two Forms of ID

You’ll need to submit a total of two forms of ID. One form must be photo ID, and the other ID must be proof of address.

Acceptable forms of photo ID:

U.S. State/Territory/Tribal drivers or non-drivers ID card

U.S. passport

Foreign passport

Matricula Consular

NEXUS card

U.S. Access Card

DOD Common Access Card

PIV Card

U.S. Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization

U.S. permanent resident card

U.S. uniformed service ID card

U.S. university card

Acceptable proof of address:

Lease

Mortgage

Deed of trust

Voter or vehicle registration card

Home or vehicle insurance policy

You cannot use any of the following as ID: Social Security cards, credit cards, birth certificates, or concealed carry permits.

The USPS requires your name and address, but this information won’t go on the public record. And if you hire us, we promise that we’ll NEVER sell your information to third parties. We also build our data storage and data security in-house for another layer of safety.
